Days of the Piikani

Each Tipi has a story that goes with it. Reggie Crow Shoe explained what the Tipi means to the Indian and all designs on the Tipi have a meaning. Societies were also explained to the students.

The presentation was put on by the Blackfeet Language Studies Department. The meaning behind the Blackfeet War Shirts and their history is told by Lea Whitford.

The topic of the presentation was suicide and resilience in American Indian tribal college students and the role of enculturation on psychological well being.

Blackfeet Community College, Blackfeet Tribal Business Council & Man Power combined effort for" Days Of The Blackfeet." Student, Guest and Faculty presentations were held. Steve Dirka presented on a historical study and summer research.

The topic discussed was, Risk Framing in Health Messaging. The presentation was led by Carol Murray, Piikani Research Presentation's Laura Larson & Mike Mckay, MSU Bozeman, BCC Research Coordinator.

Mike Lafromboise gives a presentation in Blackfeet History and how to incorporate Blackfeet thinking and ideology. The way Maslow developed his hierarchy of needs is also discussed and how he developed it from our people.

Marla Knopfle Fish leads a class of younger students on how to make Hand Game sets. While the students are sanding down their sticks Marla explains the importance of the sticks and their meanings.

Dr. Annie Belcourt gives a lecture about mental health in indian country. Also to talk about community mobilization from a global perspective. Highlighting community approaches aimed at disparities we see.

Dr. Billie Jo. Kipp addresses the crowd about healthcare issues on the Blackfeet Reservation. The Behavioral Health Program certification is established.

People from the community came to listen and learn some traditional Piikani social songs. The library invited a number of singers to share their knowledge of songs with us.
